Pet Protection Ritual

By: Brittany "Pagan" Adkins

When you become a pet parent you long to protect your fur baby as much as you possibly can. We do everything from feeding them the best foods we can buy, walking them, spoiling them with toys and more beds and blankets than one reasonably needs. Though sometimes we want to do more to keep them safe from the unpredictable.

Pagan's dogs: Bean and Kota

When my sweet Kota was alive, she would do so much to try my nerves. One of her favorite things was visiting our neighbors, she would find ways to break out of the yard and run like it was her favorite game to have mama nervously chasing after her. After her second time doing this I would give her nightly reiki and speak a spell of protection over her. She was blessed that she never got injured or hit by a car on her “adventures.”

Pet Protection Ritual

Items Needed:

  • One small white candle

  • A fire-safe container for your candle

  • Matches or a lighter

  • Pen and paper

  • Sigil of protection and good health

  • Photo or figurine of your pet

On the piece of paper write your pet’s name. Full name is best. Place it under the fire safe candle holder.

If you are using a sigil and photo or figurine of your pet place the photo/figurine on top of the sigil in front of the candle.

Light the candle and say:

With the heat of this flame, I create a shield of protection and good health around (pets name). They will be shielded from unwanted energies and illnesses that will do them harm. They will be protected from anyone who may intend to harm them. They will be blessed with love, happiness, and longevity. This shield is strong and unbreakable.

So mote it be.

This spell can be used often at a pet altar or charging any protective charms or spell bottles.

After Kota passed, I wanted to do more to protect my fur babies. I set up a pet altar for them and created spell bottles to hang above their bed. This is something you can do for yours as well.

Pet Altar

Items Needed:

  • A picture of your pet(s) or a figurine to represent them

  • Stones of protection (i.e., Quartz, Onyx, Obsidian, Amethyst, Black Tourmaline, Rainbow Moonstone)

  • Rose Quartz

  • Candle (White)

  • Fire-safe candle holder

  • Sigil of protection and good health

  • A statue of a deity you wish to have watch over your pet

  • Pet safe incense or essential oils (i.e., Lavender, Frankincense, Myrrh, Chamomile, Clary Sage)

I would like to stress that this is your altar and while the items above are my suggestions you can build your altar however you like. Also, make sure your pets won't be able to get into the altar.

Place the picture or figurine of your pet at the top of your altar and place your sigil underneath it. If you have more than one pet, you can write their names on the bottom of the sigil paper or place a sigil under each picture or figurine.

Place your candle in the middle of your altar. Place the rose quartz between the candle and images of your pet(s). This is to act as a conduit of positive and loving energy that is protective to your pet.

Arrange your other stones around the candle.

If you are using incense or essential oils, place your holder or diffuser on the altar where it is safe.

If you are using a statue of a deity, place it at the top of the altar above your pet images or figurines.

Once your altar is set, light your candle every day for a short time to continue the protective energy. When your candle is about to burn out try to light the new candle with the old one to continue the magick.

Pet Protection Spell Bottle

This is my recipe for the Pet Protection Spell Bottle. If you do not have the ingredients or the ability to create one, we do have them in our shop for purchase. I will make it for you and ship it to you.

Items needed:

  • Small spell bottle with a cork

  • Salt

  • Lavender

  • Eggshells

  • Cinnamon

  • Mint

  • Basil

  • Orange peel

  • A small strip of paper

  • Red or black pen

  • White candle

  • Lighter or matches

  • Incense or essential oil vapor to cleanse the bottle and candle for use (i.e., sage, frankincense, myrrh, lavender)

  • Wax Paper or newspaper

  • String

  • Small eye hook

  • Small funnel to fit inside the bottle

Layout the wax paper or the newspaper. Cleanse your bottle, cork, and candle with the smoke or vapor from your incense or essential oils.

Add your salt to the bottle, remember you will have several ingredients going into the bottle so just enough to cover the bottom of the bottle.

Add the name of your pet written in black or red ink.

Add the remainder of the ingredients in the following order:

  • Lavender

  • Eggshells

  • Cinnamon

  • Mint

  • Basil

  • Orange peel

Cork the bottle. If you are using a small eye hook screw it into the cork of the bottle. Once you have done that, light your candle. Once some of the wax has melted very carefully pick the candle up and drip the wax over the cork sealing the bottle. Let it dry fully before attaching your string to hang it over your pets’ bed or food dish. It should be somewhere they spend a lot of time every day.

*DO NOT ATTACH IT TO YOUR PETS COLLAR OR HARNESS!* This bottle is glass and could break and hurt them if it is attached to them.

Before I hang it, I charge it with protective energy and focusing that energy around my pet(s). Once it is hung, I usually will charge the energy again quarterly.

What to do with the bottle when your pet passes?

As much as we wish our fur babies could live forever with us, that is not the reality. When your furry loved one has passed on, if you have chosen burial, you can bury the bottle with them. If you choose cremation, then simply break the wax seal and mix the ingredients in with the ashes.

On Sunday, February 7th we will be performing this ritual together and I will be showing you how to create the spell bottle. Come join us on Facebook at 7 pm ET.
